My Son is eight months old. He is sitting, crawling, pulling up and standing, and a whirling dervish. I bought new area rugs to cover areas of our hardwood floors in the living room and the nursery. My husband is a doctor and I am a biologist. Our Son is very bright and has a wonderful personality.Research shows that damage to the front of the brain can change aspects of ones personality. Our Son is now daily landing on his head or beating it against the side of the crib or wooden sidecar. We are probably going to get a safety helmet despite the ridicule I find flooding the Internet. I want to protect him and I say if we can keep them from hurting themselves, why wouldn’;t we? Some are stating that a helmet can delay the ability to perceive danger or what will harm them. I don’;t think so. I think an intelligent child is startled enough by even a painless fall or tumble. He doesn’;t need to be physically scarred to get the message. Another point nay Sayers make is it will make them off balance. Really? It’;s just a piece of foam. Their overalls, diapers, hats, toys they carry around,.. All seem to not hinder their ability. I am going to try the helmet during his “;run around”; time. It may end up being a piece of equipment we pay a pretty penny for and end up not using for long, it may be a life saver and keep him from harming himself. We will know soon enough. Thank you for your article.

I think safety helmets for newly standing pulling themselves up babies fantastic idea better to protect for few months until their standing firmly than banging their little heads hard and causing head damage x

I searched the internet for something to protect my precious baby’;s head once he was pulling himself up and falling down again. I found the thud guard and it has been amazing. He has fallen but without hurting his head and the tears. It’;s a shame that I do feel a bit judged for using it and have had a few sarcastic comments from silly people. Anyway the most important thing is that I am doing everything I can to protect my little boy and so what if people think I’;m over protective! I’;d rather that than an injury! Can fully recommend the Thudguard –; it’;s a brilliant product that works and baby doesn’;t object to wearing it!
